Head Out To The Famous Marfa, Tx for Darius and Evan's Wedding Day

Darius and Evan Hughley //

Wedding Day at The Calera Chapel in Balmorhea, Tx and Hotel Paisano in Marfa, Tx

So what makes Marfa, Tx so famous?

Just from our short time there, we could see that Marfa was the coolest little desert town in West Texas. It’s an escape for artists, musicians, and creatives from all around. We spent some time at the Hotel St. George where we heard a variety of accents from across the world. Strange right? I mean, who knew so many different people knew about a little town in Texas. There were tons of cool art galleries, art installations, and local shops. Oh, and we can’t forget about the famous Prada Marfa!

If you make your way out there, you HAVE to stop by Marfa Burrito, that’s all I have to say about that.

We drove out to Balmorhea, Tx for Even and Darius’ wedding ceremony at La Calera Chapel. We spent some time after the ceremony shooting in the midday sun and around some incredible rock formations. We also did a “day-after shoot” where we made a two hour trip out to the Monahans Sand Dunes!

p.s. all the gear we used for this wedding is at the bottom!

To Evan and Darius:

Thank you both for allowing us to create this for you. I can't say exactly when I knew this was going to be an incredible experience, but it most definitely was. You two have been so KIND and EMPOWERING. Like, seriously, I know I said something about it on your wedding day, but I just want to reiterate…you guys made me feel so empowered as a creative. It brought me so much joy on the day and especially in the edit. So thank you!

Okay, now onto the couple!

Why do you want to capture your wedding video?

To have a piece of art the captures such cool moments, that we can cherish forever. And to share with all of our family that couldn't travel to the wedding.

Why did you pick me?

The quality of your work stood out to us above others. And after researching and getting to know Ivey and yourself we could tell this was your passion and more than a side gig.

What do you do? How do you spend your time together? What is important in life to you?

We have awesome friends and family. We're surrounded by such a great community and love spending time with our folks. We love being active, working out together, traveling, exploring new places. We like to share new experiences together (cultural, cuisine, places, movies, concerts). We want to get as much out of life as possible. To us, it's important to be in pursuit of your passion and to always be in a state of growth and evolution.

The proposal, tell us about Peru!

D: We're high school sweethearts. At the time we had been dating for 8 years so I had won back the element of surprise. We had just decided to buy our first home and move in together and it was always my plan for the proposal to come shortly after. Evan had been DYING to go on a trip to Peru to visit Machu Picchu and I knew it would be the most awesome setting we could find. Halfway through the trip we took a train to Machu Picchu. We spent a few hours exploring the I led us to an area with a clear view and asked a friendly stranger to take a 'photo' of us. I popped the question and she was 100% not expecting it!

The Chapel, why this place over everywhere else?

To us, Marfa is quirky, atypical, beautiful, and a true hidden gem. It's a place that forces people to slow down! but there is so much to enjoy once you do.

What experience do you want to give your guests?

E: Wants everyone to have a fun, chill, relaxing weekend, and soak up in all the beauty of west Texas.

D: I want to show everyone how awesome the middle of nowhere, Tx is. Evan and I have taken pride in doing things our own way and over the year and this feels like the place our wedding is supposed to be.
